Appeal
of the Czech Rectors Conference on Students of the Czech Higher Education Institutions to get vaccinated
Czech Rectors Conference (CRC) appeals on all students of Czech Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to be responsible and to get vaccinated against coronavirus. According to the CRC, vaccination is the most effective way to protect the health and lives of all citizens and at the same time enable full-fledged education in an upcoming semester.
If we want to restore teaching in the traditional form and enable our students to participate in their studies fully, at the same time, it is necessary to encourage them to get vaccinated. At the moment, there may be reasons for optimism about the development of the epidemic, but it is still necessary to take into account that the epidemic situation may change dramatically. After all, this was exactly the case last year. That is why we consider it important HEI students to be vaccinated as many as possible in time. In this way, the students themselves would contribute to strengthening collective immunity and to ensuring that the scenario from last autumn, which none of us wants to happen, is not repeated.
HEIs in the Czech Republic have been waiting patiently for the most vulnerable groups of the population (seniors, healthcare workers, firefighters, police officers, secondary and primary school teachers) to be vaccinated as a matter of priority, so that their academic staff and other employees could be vaccinated.
CRC appels on all HEI students, including newly admitted first-year students who have not been vaccinated yet, to be vaccinated without undue delay in time for the start of the 2021/2022 academic.
